Harlequins RFC
Take Centre Stage.
OVERVIEW
The task was to push Harlequins RFC into the modern era. Creating a flexible design system that was iconically Quins. The visual language developed aimed to give them the future tools to unleash their true potential and take centre stage. Just like their iconic mascot did in days gone by, The ever entertaining Harlequin.
SETTING THE SCENE
A wider colour system was developed to allow greater creative freedom. All set from Harlequins original palette, darker shades were a symbolic nod to Quins storied past, where punchy neon colours pushed Harlequins into the digital future.
THE STORYTELLERS
2 new typefaces were introduced, N27 and Merri-weather, to sit alongside the incumbent Helvetica Neue. They aimed to work seamlessly together allowing each font to portray different tone and emotion when necessary. The typographic layout was inspired by vintage cinema signage, giving each word gravitas and stage presence.
THE SPOTIGHT
Harlequins iconic diamond shape was utilised in the visual language. The simplicity of the shape allowed creative flexibility giving the brand the ability to evolve while still ensuring consistency.
A CHAMELEON
The combined building blocks enabled dynamic creativity. This allowed Quins to be flexible, appealing to their many different types of audiences, while still remaining unmistakably Quins.
